Definition of the Air Preheater
In thermal power generation, the boiler is undeniably a critical part of the production process. It serves as the heart of the entire power generation system, consistently supplying the necessary power and energy. The air preheater, a key component of the boiler, plays a vital role in optimizing the system. It enhances the boiler’s heat exchange capabilities, improves combustion efficiency, and ensures effective energy utilization. Additionally, it helps lower flue gas temperatures and reduces heat loss, making it essential for energy saving and reducing consumption throughout the thermal power generation system.
Classification of Air Preheaters
Air preheaters can be categorized into rotary, tubular, and plate types, depending on their structure and heat exchange methods. The tubular type is further divided into horizontal and vertical configurations. Our research primarily addresses the issues and solutions associated with horizontal air preheaters.
Differences Between Horizontal and Vertical Tubular Air Preheaters:
- Arrangement: Horizontal air preheaters are positioned horizontally, while vertical air preheaters are positioned vertically.
- Space Requirements: Horizontal air preheaters typically require more space, whereas vertical air preheaters occupy less space.
- Air Leakage: Horizontal air preheaters generally have a higher rate of air leakage.
- Ease of Ash Removal: Ash removal is typically easier in horizontal air preheaters, while vertical air preheaters may present more challenges.
- Installation and Maintenance: Horizontal air preheaters are generally easier to install and maintain, while vertical air preheaters might require more effort in certain situations.
Importance of the Air Preheater
The air preheater plays a critically important role in the daily operation of the boiler:
- Enhancing Thermal Efficiency: It effectively recovers residual heat from flue gases, leading to reduced energy consumption.
- Optimizing Combustion: By controlling the inlet air temperature and airflow, it ensures stable and efficient boiler combustion.
- Reducing Emissions: It lowers exhaust gas temperatures, thereby reducing pollutant emissions and improving environmental quality.
- Cost Efficiency: By enhancing thermal efficiency, it contributes to energy savings and cost reduction.
Working Principle of Horizontal Air Preheater
- Air and flue gases enter the air preheater from opposite ends.
- Inside the air preheater, air and flue gases exchange heat across the surfaces of heat exchange elements.
- During this process, air is heated while flue gases are cooled.
- The heated air is then directed into the combustion system, while the cooled flue gases are expelled from the air preheater.
- This process allows the horizontal air preheater to efficiently utilize and transfer energy
